How you can support Build a Ballot

We need your help to put Build a Ballot in the hands, feeds and group chats of Australians across the country. Whether you’re a voter, business, creator or organisation, there’s so much you can do to help!

Got a few bucks to spare? Consider donating. We're a small (mostly volunteer) team so every dollar helps!

Download posters, pub trivia and more to spread the word

We've put together a whole heap of posters, templates, social posts (even a political trivia kit!) - basically everything we could think of to make it as easy as possible for you to spread the word through your work, local pub, sporting club or community group. Here's some ideas...

  • Ask if you can put up posters at your local cafe
  • Share content on your social media accounts
  • Organise a political-themed trivia night at your local pub
  • Put up posters around your office (check with your boss first!)
  • Share Build a Ballot with your email marketing list
  • Post on your social media accounts. You don't need to use our content either - the more creative the better. Preferential voting explained with beer? Doing your research while waiting in the line for ice-cream?
  • Put up posters around your workplace
  • Pop flyers in customer orders

Pre-campaign

Build momentum

Right now, we're looking for folks like you; who care about helping Aussies get informed and can help us get Build a Ballot in front of voters across the country.

3 weeks pre-election

Tool goes live!

We need to wait until the AEC publishes the final candidate lists. Once that's done, we'll get the tool live (about 3 weeks before election day)

1-2 weeks pre-election

Big supporter push

In the last 2 weeks before election day, we're asking all our supporters to share Build a Ballot in whatever way they can!

Host an event

Sharing online is great. But talking about politics with real people in the real world is even better. Host an event to encourage people to listen, discuss, then use Build a Ballot to get election-day ready!

Organise a community event

This one is a little bit of work, but is an amazing way to connect with people in your community and start some conversations. Some tips...

  • Reach out to local not-for-profits and community groups to see if anyone is already running events
  • Consider inviting local candidates or issue experts and hosting a panel discussion
  • Keep things fun! We've created a political-themed trivia kit as a way to break the ice
  • Ask local businesses to support. You'd be surprised by how many will be open to providing catering or other support

Host a dinner party with our conversation cards!

You don't need to host a big event to get people talking about politics. Grab some friends (especially those who don't pay as much attention to politics), throw some shrimp on the barbie and put politics on the menu. Some tips for talking about politics...

  • Get curious and ask questions. What are their concerns about the future? Why do they feel the way they do? A genuine conversation starts with curiosity, not confrontation.
  • Listen to understand, not to win. When people feel heard and accepted they're more likely to be open to new perspectives.
  • Share your perspective. Once your friends feel heard, they might be more open to hearing what matters to you. Find common ground in shared values.
